Several scientists working on AI have expressed the fear that AI could kill off humanity in a decade. Data centers are the enablers of AI and the controversy concerning them has largely focused on pollution. The fear of what AI will do brings our technological developments face-to-face with even our local environment with the proposed development of a data center in Colleton County. Our question for discussion is whether human happiness or well-being should accommodate AI even at the expense of the environment, as may happen if a data center is built near the Ace Basin?
