Our HHI Board met on April 17th, 2018, and welcomed two new members:
Bill Byrne: Bill was trained as a lawyer, served as a judge and was Mayor of Morgantown WV where he practiced law for almost 40 years. Born in Brooklyn, raised on Long Island, he graduated from The College of the Holy Cross and then served as a Peace Corps volunteer in northeastern Brazil. He and his wife Mimmie spent another year in Colombia, South America, where Bill did graduate work and Mimmie taught English. They came to Hilton Head in the mid 90s and moved here on a semi permanent basis in 2012. Bill is a volunteer at Volunteers in Medicine where he serves as an interpreter. He enjoys playing music, cooking, politics, reading and fishing. At this juncture in our history he believes ethical leadership is of paramount importance to our country. Dave Mortimer: Dave has extensive experience in financial services and the financing of infrastructure projects. He has served over 25 years in elected office at the local and county levels well as executive leadership in the legislative branch of New Jersey government. Locally he has participated in OLLI and is a member of World Affairs Council, where he has coordinated the Fall Forum discussion group. We expressed thanks to two past members who have been awarded Emeritus Status for their past services on our Board:
We also welcomed Isam Sakati to serve as Chair of our HHI Ethics Board along with Neil and Gerry. The May 2, 2018 presentation at HHI Library had to be cancelled due to toxic paint fumes closing the Library. Presenter Carlton Dallas has graciously agreed to postpone his presentation until Wednesday, February 6th, 2019, when he will present on the topic "Ethical Factors Involved in Oil and Gas Production and Distribution."
